Join the MOTAT team as we embark upon an exciting new journey. The MOTAT Vision is to be the “must experience” venue that uses New Zealand’s heritage, Kiwi ingenuity, transport, technology and the associated stories in a creative and interactive way to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow.
Volunteering at MOTAT
Volunteers passionate about preserving Auckland's transport heritage founded MOTAT in 1964, and their contribution since then has contributed to what MOTAT is today, a much loved destination for visitors of all ages.
MOTAT is an important part of the Auckland community, providing a family friendly destination for local and international visitors and learning programmes for over 26,000 school children every year.
We have grown at a phenomenal rate and are supported by over 200 dedicated volunteers who have diverse skills ranging across conservation, restoration, customer service, exhibition hosting, research, engineering, and much more.
If you’re keen to join the MOTAT Team as a volunteer, please review the current Volunteer Assignments listed on the right. Please read the volunteer job descriptions as some roles require specialised skills.
At this point in time we are particularly looking for Experience Hosts, Aircraft Engineers and Panelbeaters. Needs within different departments do vary depending on what skills are required at any given time.
The Role of a Volunteer
Being a MOTAT Volunteer is an exciting and rewarding endeavour and one that will challenge you and encourage you to share stories, knowledge and experiences with MOTAT customers and other MOTAT Team Members.
Volunteers are involved in many different aspects of MOTAT’s operation, from the maintenance of museum artefacts, to conducting tours of our various collection areas. There are also opportunities within the wider MOTAT Team. We're looking forward to an exciting future as we continue to develop our two MOTAT sites into places where both local and international visitors explore New Zealand ingenuity and innovation.
