MOTAT is the home to New Zealand's most unique and historic aviation collection. The multi-million dollar project to provide a new Aviation Display Hall is now completed.
The project had two parts. The first part was the relocation and refurbishment of MOTAT's existing Blister Hangar (workshop) and the second, was the construction of a custom designed building to enhance the display of the museums unique aviation collection.
The Display Hall is already making its mark, winning several Architecture awards in 2011 including:
New Zealand Institute of Architecture (NZIA)
New Zealand Wood Timber Design
The Display Hall also won Highly Commended in the Commercial Engineering Excellence category for the New Zealand Wood Timber Design Awards.
In addition to many of the museum's aircraft and other aviation related material, the Aviation Display Hall now houses items from the Jean Batten and Walsh Brothers Collections previously on display in the Pioneers of Aviation building at the Great North Road site.
You will also find the following film, MEMORIES OF BOMBER COMMAND, now screening in full at MOTAT's Aviation Display Hall.
