MOTAT 1 (Great North Road)
Please note that 'Night Lights' is currently not open to the public.
Celebrate Matariki in radiant style with a spectacular illumination event, Night Lights at MOTAT. Visitors will experience an alluring display of light installations inspired by the Museum’s heritage collection at this special evening event. The unique and engaging interpretations created by local up-coming artists will see transport and technology artefacts represented as never before. The installations will be complemented by light activations such as projection mapping and floodlit heritage buildings.
Guests will also have the opportunity to experience the award-winning science-based interactive exhibition, Sunlight – Ihi Kōmaru, which is new to MOTAT and tells the fascinating story of sunlight.
Lustrous, an enchanting art installation created using recycled materials to give waste materials a second life, is bound to be a major attraction. Designed by a group of Architecture students from UNITEC, the installation consists of 1,500 reused light bulbs, 1,500 zip ties and 15 metres of wire mesh, all lit up with a range of LED lights.
Live cultural performances and Puha & Pakeha, the food truck serving delicious Māori food with a modern twist, will be on site to add to the festive family fun.
