DB Export - Beer, The Untold Story
In 2010 DB Breweries approached MOTAT to use sections of our Great North Road site and museum artefacts to tell the untold story of New Zealand’s export beer, DB Export.
The brand story focuses on changes in 1958, whereby New Zealand taxed imported beer at double the rate, which prevented the working man from being able to afford quality beer. Morton Coutts saw an opportunity and brewed a high quality domestic beer, which wouldn't be taxed at the high rate.
DB approached MOTAT to use the 1920’s shopfront to recreate a 1950’s street with museum tram and car artefacts, a barber shop, and the iconic MOTAT Pumphouse to feature as a factory.
