Aligned with the Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki (1996), MOTAT's Early Childhood education programmes are designed as a guided discovery of our collections by a MOTAT Early Childhood Educator.
Designed for our youngest visitors, learning experiences include a thrilling tram ride and hands-on fun in our specially designed under 5s area, MOTOTs

Hey Tram

Introduction
This programme revolves around a naughty tram that takes off without it’s driver Tommy, and follows him as he races to catch up to his run away tram. -
Minds-on
Learners will engage with key pieces of MOTAT transport collects as the follow Tommy the tram driver on his quest to catch up with his runaway tram. Each section of the story is read at a different spot at MOTAT. -
Hands-on
Each stop off on the chase after the runaway tram involves element of dress ups and role play. -

An introduction to coding using Cubetto, Bee-Bots, Scribble Bots, and visual aids. -

Machines in a Toolbox

Introduction
Youngsters explore how simple machines fit and work together to create many of the toys, tools, and accessories we use regularly. -
Minds-on
Kids will be supplied with a tool box with components to make a skateboard, pulley system, and a catapult. -
Hands-on
These hand-on activities develop both gross and fine motor skills through a variety of challenges, including hammering and construction activities. -

A self-guided Museum trail presented in Te Reo Māori. -
Minds-on
Kids can discover treasures of the MOTAT collection on this self-guided trail presented in Te Reo Māori. This activity is designed to strengthen the understanding and use of Te Reo, and is suitable for those new to the language and fluent speakers. -
Hands-on
Students will be encouraged to search for a variety of items, including Tarakitā, Kura and Wākana, and objects in a variety of colours. -
