Tanks and armoured personnel carriers, experience military and defence at MOTAT!
Don’t forget to take a ride in our military vehicles every Third Sunday of the month for MOTAT Live.
The Military Collection includes some of the first New Zealand military technology, military vehicles, and field and communication equipment from various wars, uniforms, personal wartime memorabilia and a small collection of photographs.
Due to the country's rugged landscape, there is a variety of vehicles on show from the Collection each with their own unique purpose and history which tell stories of kiwi ingenuity and New Zealanders at war.
Learn more about the transportation, equipment and technology used in various military actions; particularly the New Zealand contribution to the Allied effort during World War II.
Our Military Workshop has completed many restorations over the years.
Current restoration projects include:
- 1941 Cab 11 Canadian Military Pattern truck
This is a ground up restoration of which the entire vehicle has been stripped down, rust repaired, and sand blasted. It is currently having the brake system overhauled, and re-instated into the chassis, and running gear. The engine has recently returned from reconditioning, and is being prepared for installation.
Our Military volunteers spend a great deal of time maintaining our running fleet, which can be seen active or static displayed every Third Sunday of the month for MOTAT Live.
