Shaped like a space ship, the Voyager 1 is a New Zealand made 4D simulator that will take you on a thrilling virtual reality adventure - all featured on a gigantic 9 x 4 metre theatre screen.
Both of Voyager 1's popular motion movies are now showing at MOTAT! ‘Journey to Eden' takes you on a thrilling adventure ride over New Zealand's breath taking Southern Alps, while ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth' is an animated roller coaster ride into the depths of the earth as we've never seen it before!
A ride on Voyager 1 comes as part of your MOTAT admission fee.
The Tactile Dome is an all time MOTAT favourite. In total darkness you can explore through tunnels inside a purpose built dome using only your sense of touch and direction - a real challenge! Check out other MOTAT favourites like the cool Mirror Maze and see how fast you can get through the baffling labyrinth.
We offer hands-on exhibits which are entertaining, informative and fun for all age groups. The Challenge Zone is a must-do for kids on your visit to MOTAT!
Get the whole family along to MOTAT for our Weekend Experience "Hot Spots".
Work as a team and use the close up images on your "Hot Spot" form to hunt out the specific collection objects on display at MOTAT. There are three different levels of difficulty and big coloured circles around the site will tell you when you're getting "hot".
In this fun new ‘Weekend Experience' the kids can learn while they play, reading about historic objects and New Zealanders while trying to solve the next mystery object.
Identify all four objects on your form and your team could be in to win a prize in the monthly prize draw!
Take a ride around MOTAT and through our Victorian Village on ‘Little Flick'.
‘Little Flick' rides are available during weekends and on busy days (weather permitting)
10am - 5pm.

All third Sunday of the month activities come as part of your admission fee (or MOTAT Mates membership) and run 11am – 4.30pm.
‘I Spy' is a fun, hands-on experience designed for you and your under 5s.
There are two great trails to choose from, including our brand new trail added in January and fun activities for you all to enjoy.
Including receiving a special key to unlock the mystery ‘I Spy' boxes around MOTAT, solving riddles using a map and magnifying glass, listening to ‘I Spy’ stories in our Walsh Memorial library and receiving a special 'I Spy' certificate.

‘I Spy' is ideal for children between 2 to 5 years of age and runs from Monday to Friday only and is free with your normal MOTAT admission (under 5s are free!) No bookings necessary.
