When Can I See the Beam Engine Running?

 

The Pumphouse and Beam Engine usually runs every Thursday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm, and for special MOTAT events.

Great North Road Site

  • 10.00am - 5.00pm: Girl Power: The Exhibition is now open. Be inspired by what New Zealand women have achieved by visiting ‘Girl Power: The Exhibition’. Click here for more details about this amazing new MOTAT exhibition.

  • 10.00am – 5:00pm: New MOTAT exhibition Carless Daze is now on! ‘Carless Daze’ takes a look back at this notable period in New Zealand’s history in light of today’s ever-increasing energy issues. Click here for further details.

  • 10:00am - 5:00pm:  ‘From the Cape to the Gloves’ is the fourth in a series of textile displays based on women’s ever changing fashion from 1880 to 1914.  This exhibition is an opportunity to focus on New Zealand’s shawls, capes, coats and accessories that suited our country’s ‘four seasons in one day’ climate.   • 10.00am- 4.00pm: Enter the Tactile Dome- Kids only zone. Explore in total darkness!

  • 10.30am – 4:00pm: A new Voyager 1 motion movie has arrived at MOTAT!  Shaped like a spaceship, this state-of-the-art simulator will take you on a thrilling virtual reality adventure! In association with Space Dome Technologies Limited.  Running at regular intervals on the weekend. Click here for further details.

  • Come down to the Knowledge Base in the Walsh Memorial Library and listen to some entertaining stories read by our librarians.

  • 10.00am – 5.00pm: The Walsh Memorial Library is open seven days a week for the 'Exploring Energy' holiday experience.  Make ‘n’ take your own Pumphouse, or just chill out and relax on the beanbags and cushions!  Click here for further details.

  • Experience a ride on one of MOTAT's lovingly restored trams. Tram rides leave every half hour from 10:00 until 4:30 from outside the souvenir shops at both MOTAT Great North Road site and MOTAT Motions Road site.

Cropper House

  • 9:30am - 4:30pm Come to Cropper House and enjoy a delicious range of café food in the Araroa Tea Rooms, or sit and relax on the terrace with views over Western Springs. Click here for further details.

Meola Road Site

 

Visit one of the world's most extensive Aviation displays including:

  • Solent Flying Boat Mark IV This lovingly restored aircraft is the only one of her kind in the world!

  • WWII Lancaster Bomber – The only plane of its type in New Zealand! Aircraft restoration and display by our WWII veterans.

All inclusive admission to both sites is: $14 adults, $7 children and seniors (children under 5 free) or use a Family pass $30 [2 Adults and 4 children]
