1926: No. 91 Runs Amok on Symonds Street

One day on Symonds Street in August 1926, an unfortunate accident occurred when No. 91's motorman lost his footing on the platform and tumbled out into the street. The unmanned tram left its tracks at the corner of Wellesley and Symonds Street, careering a distance of 90 metres before striking a tree then coming to rest in the front garden of a private residence. The motorman was taken to hospital, suffering from severe head injuries while the tramcar sustained serious damage to one end and a side.
