Invented in 1992 by Allan Croad as an alternative to the baby stroller, the Mountain buggy is a robust vehicle suitable for cross-country travel.
As the parent of a young child, Croad wanted to go jogging while looking after his son. He combined a child's car seat with a golf trundler to create the ‘buggy'. With its large tyres and lightweight, hardy aluminium frame, the buggy soon became popular with parents all over New Zealand, making it the top selling stroller available.
This example is the original prototype, donated to the museum by Allan Croad in 2004.
