About the Library

The Walsh Memorial Library is as old as MOTAT itself. The Library was first set up in 1964 with support from the Walsh Memorial Trust and the Royal Aeronautical Society and is named after the Walsh Brothers.

The collections in the Library reflect the museum's collection with an emphasis on published and unpublished sources that promote the understanding and enjoyment of transport and technology history.

The library collects materials that help us understand where objects in the museum might fit into the wider context of social history in Auckland and New Zealand. The library also has a wide range of material about older technologies, which helps conserve technical knowledge.
