Good Old Days

Let MOTAT take you back to the Good Old Days. From the Roaring 20s, fabulous 40s or the swinging 60s. Each era from the 1900s to the 1980s will be brought to life with live music, nostalgic food offering and guided tours highlighting objects from the MOTAT collection. Taking place on the first Wednesday of each month, It’s everything you need to bring back floods of memories from the good old days!

We invite you to join us on Wednesday 6 September for the first Good Old Days event, as we kick things off with a hiss and a roar by journeying back to the 1900’s!

Is heavy machinery your thing? Then be sure to visit the Pumphouse, where our knowledgeable staff will reveal the history of this amazing building and the objects inside, including the “one-of a kind” double compound Beam Engine! Or, if social history is more what grabs you, then why not join a tour through the MOTAT Village? Explore buildings from New Zealand’s colonial past and catch a glimpse of life in years gone by, as our guides reveal the sometimes surprising, but always intriguing histories that surround them.  For those just looking to relax and soak in the ambience, fret not… we’ve got you covered too! Take 5 on Cropper lawn as you watch a watercolour painter demonstrate their craft, while our talented harpist performs for your enjoyment, and our café will be standing by to tantalise your taste buds with a delicious high tea menu!

Onsite activities include:

Pumphouse tours, MOTAT village tours, live music and demonstrations.
