Simple Mechanisms

 Minds-on

Students investigate simple mechanisms at work and the ways they make our lives easier. These simple mechanisms include: the lever, the pulley, the wheel and axle, the wedge, and the inclined plane. Students participate in the identification and sorting of simple mechanisms.

 Hands-on

Physical experiments are used to introduce a range of simple mechanisms. All students construct a range of simple machines to solve some problems. Older students also work in groups to design and build a compound machine.

  Plus

The Adult-led Group Trail includes information and questions designed to encourage exploration and identification of simple mechanisms contained with MOTAT's amazing collection.
