was started in 1953 for the purpose of building authentic New Zealand
Railways models, and continues into the 1970s. It contains photographs,
magazine clippings, text and plans of locomotives, rolling stock and
railway stations mainly from Auckland to North Auckland.
Manuals
Our collection of manuals is extremely comprehensive and includes manuals
for a large range of aircraft, including aircraft components, cars,
trucks, motorcycles and a range of farming equipment, and many other types
of vehicles, tools, machinery and equipment. They mostly date from the
early to mid 20th century.

The library holds a wide collection of periodicals, some dating back to
the late 19th Century. We have almost complete runs of Flight magazine

aeronautical charts, and a comprehensive collection of detailed maps
showing the tramlines of Auckland in the 1950s.
Motoring brochures and advertising
We have a nice collection of 1960s coloured car brochures and flyers, for
a wide range of cars produced in that era including Volkswagen Beetle,

Donations
MOTAT is happy to receive donations of
materials that fit within our collection policy.
We are particularly interested in periodicals to help
complete our collection and books on the topics of transport, technical
knowledge and social history.
For donated material that does not come
within our collection policy, we will try to forward those items to
other libraries.
If you wish to donate any items to
MOTAT, please contact the Registrar to discuss your offer. MOTAT
appreciates your support to enhance its collections. Email: Enquiries@motat.org.nz
Volunteering in the library
We are always interested in library volunteers, especially people who are
knowledgeable in our areas of collection and people with library
experience or training. You need to be meticulous and good at problem
solving and available for at least a regular 3 hour stint every week.
Working in the library can be a stepping-stone to paid library work for
those new to the profession or the country.
 Jean
Batten Scrapbook Material
Thanks to a grant from Te Papa National
Services Te Paerangi, MOTAT is proud to be able to make available to
researchers a large scrapbook of material about Jean Batten, in a
digital format. Previously, because the scrapbook was too fragile to be
handled the information was not readily available to people. Now
researchers of any age can contact us and use this resource.

unique resource contact the Library on 09 8155 810 or 09 8155 811

several times until it finally became The Auckland Transport Club, which
continued until c.1971.
