New to the Library This Month

Roadworks, By Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock.

Winner of the 2009 New Zealand Post Picture Book Award

This award winning title was added to the MOTAT Library Children’s Collection this month. It is a colourful and lively book that describes the building of a road. The rhyming text is simple with lots of repetition and noisy sounding words that make it suitable for both pre-school and early primary school children. The big bold colourful pictures and noisy onomatopoeic words create a fun, interactive book. Children can join in with the noisy words at the end of each page. It is also informative and factual about the many stages involved in building a new road. At the end of the story there is a ‘Machine Facts’ page full of information and facts about the different machinery used throughout the story. This is a great read for the many young fans of diggers and trucks that love to visit MOTAT.

This story is sure to be a hit at the new Wednesday morning MOTAT storytime. MOTAT Storytime for under 5s begins on Wednesday 22nd July 2009, and will be on offer every Wednesday during school terms at 10:30 am. Come and join us for stories, poems and songs, all with a MOTAT related theme of course.
