Become a MOTAT Volunteer

MOTAT is New Zealand's largest and leading transport and technology museum where history comes alive. Within 40 acres, we take our visitors on an interactive journey through many of the technological achievements that have helped shape New Zealand.

In 1964 MOTAT was started by people passionate about saving Auckland's transport heritage. MOTAT today is an important part of the Auckland community, and our success is largely the result of the dedication and commitment of all our MOTAT staff, volunteers and supporters.

MOTAT has over 280 dedicated volunteers. Volunteer roles embrace a diverse range of skills and professions from conservation, restoration, customer service, exhibition hosting, research, engineering and more.

The Museum is a unique environment where volunteers work alongside staff to ensure that we are able to care for our collection and provide our customers with a true MOTAT experience.

We're looking forward to an exciting future as we continues to develop into a place where both domestic and international visitors can explore New Zealand's innovative past through visually stimulating, interactive exhibitions.

We are looking for volunteers to join our passionate team at MOTAT, to assist in creating an exciting environment & be responsible for helping our visitors discover the history behind our amazing collection and stories.
