28 July 2010 - MOTAT’S spellbinding school holiday experience

MOTAT'S SPELLBINDING SCHOOL HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE

Magic mirrors, science experiments and invisible messages; these school holidays MOTAT is unraveling the mystery of science in its ‘Magic of Science' holiday experience.

From 03 - 18 July, visitors to MOTAT will step into a magical world where science comes to life.

Bridgette Robinson, Events Coordinator at MOTAT, said the focus of the event is about having fun while gaining knowledge of scientific methods and practices

"What better way to get kids interested in the workings of science than merging it with magic. The activities at the holiday experience are designed to capture children's imaginations through exploring magic concepts to find the science behind," said Ms Robinson.

The holiday experience is bursting with activities; including a 20 minute magic school, running every 30 minutes, which will teach budding magicians the tools of the trade in an interactive workshop. A daily demonstration by MOTAT's resident magician and his suitcase of tricks will also keep the whole family mystified.

MOTAT will also be hosting the informative Fonterra Science Roadshow for the duration of the holiday experience. Explore science principles through an exciting collection of hands-on exhibits and science demonstrations.

With over 60 hands-on interactive exhibits under the themes of pressure and forces, technologies, electricity, human performance and health, motion, materials and more, the Fonterra Science Roadshow is sure to get kids excited about science.

"We're thrilled to be hosting the Fonterra Science Roadshow as it is such a great way for kids to get stuck in and experience just how exciting science can be," says Ms Robinson.

Kids can create their own personalised magic book by collecting MOTAT's ‘apprentice magician' cards at each activity. One side of the card will explain the secret behind the magic trick while the other side will provide the scientific explanation.
